Riga “Rumba VEF / LSPA“ team from Latvia is the winner of Riga Cup tournament of the International amateur league IABL 2023/2024

On January 20, 2024 the championship was renewed after a long break. There were four teams from Lithuania and Latvia ready for a battle in Riga Tournament.

Riga “Rumba VEF / LSPA“ (Latvia) and Šiauliai team from Lithuania played a game in the first semifinal. The first part of the game was more or less equal, but later on the host team from Riga took the lead and gained the victory in a result 93:72.

The teams Riga “Binders“ (Latvia) and Kaunas KKL (Lithuania) battled in the second semifinal.The match scenario corresponded to the first one, however, this time the guests from Lithuania defeated the rivals in a result 84:57.
Riga “Binders“ (Latvia) and “Šiauliai“ (Lithuania) had to play for the 3rd place. A fierce fight broke out on basketball court, however, in the second half of the match, the players of “Šiauliai“ saved more strength and defeated their opponents from Latvia thus achieving victory in a result 89:69 and won the 3rd place of Riga Cup tournament of IABL.

Riga “Rumba VEF / LSPA“ (Latvia) and Kaunas KKL (Lithuania) teams fought for the champions title of Riga Cup tournament. Latvian basketball players took the lead from the start as the team has a longer bench but the players of Kaunas team showed the true character of fighters and at the end of the match minimized the difference from minus 15 to 2 points. Everything was decided in the last minutes, which the host team played better and celebrated the victory with the result 96:92.

After the match, all teams gathered together and enjoyed the dinner. The teams agreed to continue the championships as well as to attract other teams to join. The next tournament is planned to take place in Lithuania. This will be announced later.
